DESTINATION: CORK

Cork is the second largest Irish city and third largest on the island. Cork is the largest city in Munster. Ireland’s leading educational center, Cork is still home to many recognized universities. The city of 125,622 inhabitants is known as an academic city, receives numerous foreign students per year and is very welcoming.

At University College Cork, elected “Irish University of the Year” in 2003 and 2006 by the Sunday Times and ranked among the 700 best in the world (according to QS World University 2018), you can find courses in arts, engineering, law, trade and medicine. Cork also has the National Maritime College of Ireland, which is one of the few places where you can study nautical science. You may also like the Cork Institute of Technology, which offers a variety of courses such as mathematics, engineering, computer science and business, or Cork College of Commerce, Ireland’s largest first-level training institute. It is also in Cork that you can find Griffith College Cork and St John’s Central College.

If you are a music or arts student, you may be interested in the Cork School of Music or the Crawford College of Art and Design.

Cork was considered the European Capital of Culture in 2005 and is stuffed with attractions and tours. It will not be difficult to combine your studies with cultural programs! Due to immigration from all over the world over the years, Cork is a true and rich cultural center. While you are there, you may like to combine your studies and get to know St Finbarr Cathedral, Blackrock Castle, Crawford Art Gallery and the famous English Market.

In addition to the gastronomy, another decoy of the city is the nightlife. Cork has a wide range of bars, pubs and nightclubs, and is renowned for its live music venues – which are also popular with students there. Once a year, Cork hosts the Jazz Festival event, always in October.

The city is easy to walk from side to side, and is a perfect haven for international students. It’s easy to make friends, meet people and integrate the culturally rich city. You will live and take with you all the memorable and unforgettable experiences a student deserves!
